RESTON, VA, USA and GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – 21 June 2010 – The Internet Society today announced its new Board of Trustees, comprised of leaders from industry, academy, and the global Internet community. The diverse and distinguished board membership reflects the Internet Society’s mission of providing global leadership in promoting the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world.

Members of the Board with terms beginning this year are:

• Narelle Clark, Independent consultant and Vice-President of the Australian Chapter of the Internet Society
• Eva Frölich, Co-founder of Frobbit!
• Bob Hinden, Check Point Fellow at Check Point Software
• Lawrence Lessig, Director of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics at Harvard University, and a Professor of Law at Harvard Law SchoolRal Echeberra, the Executive Director of LACNIC (the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean) was reelected as the chair of the Board.

En person i Stockholm har gett sig pp att registrera dessa företagsnamn som domännamn med i och därefter skickar han brev till dessa företag för att få dem att köpa loss domänerna av honom. Om de inte köper loss dem så hotar han med att något som blir obehagligt för företagaren kommer att hända. Exakt vad framgår inte i brevet.

Brevet börjar dock med en ren felaktighet. Såhär står det:
Sedan i höstas har möjligheten att använda bokstäverna åäö, samt i de svenska internetnamnen funnits och inom sex till nio månader kommer ingen att använda ersättningsbokstäverna a samt o.

Bokstäverna har gått att använda i domännamn sedan flera år tillbaka och att ingen kommer att använda ersättningsbokstverna a,o inom sex till nio månader är ett påstende taget ur luften. Speciellt som man utanför Sveriges gränser inte kan skriva åäö på sina tangentbord och många svenska företag har relationer utanför Sveriges gränser.

Brevet fortsätter sedan i hotfull stil, det ställs krav och anges vad man ska göra. I ett tonfall som får mig att tänka på en krävande patron från 1800-talet som inte tålde att bli motsagd hur fel han än hade!

Pengarna skall dessutom skänkas som gåva så att personen ifråga inte fråntas den sjukpenning han har. Det framgår dessutom rätt tydligt att personen ifråga känner sig kränkt av vissa instanser och vill dryga ut sin alltför låga inkomst på detta vis.

Brevet är mycket hotfullt formulerat! Och otrevligt! Det kan inte vara kul att få. Men att betala på ett sånt hot nej går inte det! Det löser inga av de problem som samhället brottas med!
